REVOLUTION Medicines is an exciting, early stage biotechnology company that discovers and develops innovative drugs for cancer patients directed toward frontier oncology and immune-oncology targets.  The company draws inspiration from evolution and natural products that are inherently rich with biological function. REVOLUTION Medicines deploys an innovative toolkit including REVBLOCKS™, an integrated suite of rapid, agile, and modular synthesis methodologies applied to simple chemical “building blocks,” and the REVEAL™ computational platform, which uses evolution’s lessons to inform selection of chemical scaffolds guide drug design for non-classical drug targets. As a new member of the RevMed team, you will join other outstanding scientists who are helping lead our efforts in the discovery and development of new medicines for unmet needs in cancer.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the identification, selection and management of Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) for process optimization, cGMP manufacture and supply of Drug Substance (API) and Drug Product (DP) in support of RevMed clinical programs:
  • Drug Substance: Synthetic route evaluation/selection, salt selection, process optimization and scale-up.

  • Drug Product: pre-formulation characterization, development of phase appropriate dosage formulations, process optimization and scale-up.

  • Analytical: phase appropriate method development and qualification/validation, develop appropriate specifications for drug substances and drug products - provide guidance for establishing appropriate stability programs to support desired retest and expiry dating of drug substance and drug product.

  • Ensure delivery of robust, scalable and cost-effective manufacturing routes and drug product formulations that meet or exceed the target clinical profile.  Provide strategic guidance in developing and validating product and process parameters in a time and cost-sensitive manner.

  • Lead the formulation design/development for RevMed clinical programs.

  • Actively manage the supply chain and logistics in support of RevMed clinical studies.

  • Communicate strategy and project status to senior stakeholders and assist in driving decision making.  Prepare technical reports, publications and oral presentations.

  • Identify and monitor critical path activities of vendors and develop contingency plans when the project deviates from that path.

  • Oversee or act as technical lead in development projects and ensure execution of plans and program objectives.

  • Interact with cross-discipline personnel to integrate technical information across project activities, specifically communication of CMC-related topics.

  • Interface with Regulatory Affairs to communicate CMC topics for regulatory submissions.

  • Develop budgets and resource planning to achieve product development goals.

  • Writing and reviewing documents for INDs / regulatory section submissions; represent RevMed as the CMC expert before U.S. and European regulatory authorities.

  • Prepare, review and/or edit cGMP batch records, CMC regulatory and Quality documents.

 

Required Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Preferably a PhD (minimum Bachelor’s degree) in chemistry, chemical engineering or related discipline with a deep understanding of small molecule synthetic chemistry and demonstrable expertise in CMC.

  • Ideally 10+ years of CMC/process chemistry experience with a strong track record of scientific leadership with managing CMC teams and overall successful CMC campaigns.

  • Drug product/process development experience advancing programs through the clinic, including analytical chemistry from method development to validation/route testing.

  • Experience with process scale up and improvement programs.

  • Thorough understanding and experience of CMC considerations with respect to GMP, quality systems, FDA and associated regulatory requirements, specifically late stage investigational new drug applications (IND).

  • Familiarity with US and international regulatory guidance and processes including experience with Regulatory Affairs CMC requirements and expectations, including writing related submissions.

  • Experience with supply chain management.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with interdepartmental teams.

  • Ability to mentor technical staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan and achieve CMC function goals as part of interdisciplinary project teams.

The Opportunity:

As the lead for Safety Pharmacology and Toxicology, you will oversee the non-clinical safety pharmacology and toxicology for the Company’s programs at the discovery and preclinical development stage, as well as in to early stage clinical development. Specifically, you will:

  • Be a critical member of the leadership of the emergent Development Sciences organization.

  • Be a key member of the multi-disciplinary research project teams.

  • Be accountable to the Head of Development Sciences, and the Research and Development Team Leads for performing cutting-edge science to understand the potential and observed toxicities of our molecules, and model these in preclinical settings.

  • Independently design and execute experimental strategies using cellular and molecular immunological techniques to investigate drug and target-related toxicities and mechanisms of action.

  • Manage, analyze and archive experimental data, and present experimental results at internal meetings and scientific conferences.

  • Be accountable for the oversight of key CROs.

  • Be accountable for the preparation of documents for regulatory filings and interactions with partners and collaborators.

  • Establish collaborations with leading academic research groups.

  • Be accountable for toxicology input to the Research and Development governance structure.

 

Required Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent in cancer biology, cell biology or a related discipline, with at least three years of relevant industry experience in toxicology for Senior Scientist level or five years for Associate Director level.

  • Demonstrable record of strong leadership and teamwork.

  • Strong track record of research productivity as evidenced by high-quality, impactful publications, preferably in the field of cancer biology or related field.

  • Experience of managing CROs.

  • Extensive hands on experience in relevant laboratory techniques.

  • Rigorous, quantitative and detail-oriented experimentalist.

  • Thrives in a collaborative team setting and is driven by a desire to deploy innovative approaches and technologies in a high energy environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize options, anticipate challenges, and execute on goals as a member of an interdisciplinary team is extremely important.

The Opportunity:

As a highly-motivated biotech/pharma professional with experience of drug discovery and early development focused on supporting 1-2 projects as well as buildout of our project management capabilities, you will:

  • Ensure that team and management concurrence is reached on program objectives, and that the team successfully delivers on the Company’s goals of timely and quality-focused development of new therapies within our portfolio
  • Act as a central contact for information on discovery/development programs and manage cross-functional activities to efficiently advance program goals

  • Collaborate with project leads, project teams and management to create a development strategy, establish team objectives, and monitor team progress

  • Proactively identify potential program bottlenecks, issues, and/or resource constraints and collaborate with the project leader and functions to develop plans for resolution.

  • Make recommendations regarding project objectives, resource requirements, and tactical plans to team and senior management

 

Key Position Responsibilities

  • Provide professional project management for two or more discovery, pre-clinical, and/or clinical programs

  • Participate in the oversight of cross-functional activities with project leaders and functional heads; make recommendations for action; and ensure appropriate follow-up to achieve approved project objectives

  • Responsibly manage project information, ensuring smooth transactions across milestones from discovery through preclinical development, IND, and clinical development

  • Support quarterly forecasts, and manage scope, timeline, and financial changes through tracking and proactively managing variances at the project level

  • Responsible for monitoring and facilitating project actions, risks, decisions, and issues to support effective project team interactions; notify and escalate issues, risks, and outcomes to the project teams

  • Support the project team toward implementation of the strategic and operational plans

  • Manage and track program progress to goals on a continual basis; identify and track cross-functional issues; scope issues at the project level including timelines and budgets; work proactively with project leader and team, including outsourced teams, to achieve timely resolution of issues and achievement of approved project goals

  • Ensure that timely, accurate, and comprehensive project information is available to senior management

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with other functions and with external partners/vendors to foster positive interactions and support achieving desired project outcomes

 

Required Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science (with an advanced degree preferred e.g. MS or Ph.D)
  • PMP certification highly preferred with 5+ years of experience in biotech or biopharma, specifically Discovery chemistry or biology, pre-clinical, clinical development and/or CMC  

  • Strong project management skills, specifically timeline and budget development and oversight with hands-on experience from preclinical through clinical development

  • Ability to manage teams and individuals in a matrix environment, ability to track team performance against objectives, use of effective meeting management tools and techniques, and knowledge of decision-making and conflict resolution techniques

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, diplomatic and calm under pressure

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with cross-functional teams

  • Innovative, proactive team-player with high energy for our start-up environment

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan and achieve project related goals as part of an interdisciplinary team plus demonstrated success in building and managing cross functional teams

  • Experience in authoring and/or coordinating creation of research and development plans and confidential investigator brochures.

  • MS Office, specifically Project, Excel, PowerPoint expertise required
